SPEECH / LANGUAGE THERAPY
The goal of speech therapy is to improve all aspects of communication. This includes: comprehension, expression, sound production, fluency, voice, and social use of language. A speech therapy program is tailored to the specific strengths and weaknesses and the environment of the individual.
Effective Speech Therapy results from implementation of the following practices:
• Therapy should be rooted in practical experiences of life.
• Therapy should encourage spontaneous communication.
• Any communication skills learned during speech therapy should generalize to multiple situations
The speech/language sessions are designed to engage the client in all aspects of communication using a multi-sensory approach with pictures, cards, books, games and toys chosen specifically for the individual. Several different speech therapy techniques and approaches can be used in a single session or throughout many sessions.
Effective communication is fundamental to all aspects of human functioning particularly in learning and social interaction.
